Sandwell is a large, multicultural borough in the West Midlands with a population of over 308,000; making it the third largest in the region. The six historic towns that make up the borough are Oldbury, Rowley Regis, Smethwick, Tipton, Wednesbury and West Bromwich. It’s a lively place with plenty of green spaces, high quality housing and excellent transport links; strategically well-positioned between Birmingham and our Black Country neighbours.
The Council is the largest employer in the borough with approximately 10,600 employees in a variety of occupations. Employees are based in several locations ranging from Sandwell Council House in Oldbury, satellite offices, libraries, depots and our schools.
Sandwell has a £6.2bn economy which is growing faster than the UK average. The council is driving forward and seizing this opportunity with new investments in infrastructure, housing and public services, encouraging an appetite for change in local business and residents. This requires new ways of working, and we are investing and delivering differently, bringing opportunities to local residents, businesses and towns through HS2, the Commonwealth Games, the Metro Extension and more. It also means new values, behaviours and culture for us as an organisation.
We are now seeking to recruit two Assistant Directors who are passionate about improving the quality of services for our residents and ambitious to deliver a cleaner, greener and active Borough. These opportunities present not only a huge challenge but also a great opportunity to lead, develop and continuously improve a wide range of business-critical services. We are realistic that our ambitious changes cannot be made overnight. This is why we are seeking individuals who are up for the challenge to join us in delivering this ambitious agenda for Sandwell – Big Plans for a Great Place.
